LUCKNOW: Lucknow University became the first University in Uttar Pradesh and 28th in the country to secure the highest National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading of A++ with a cumulative grade point average of 3.55 out of 4 on Tuesday.
Scoring high in all seven parameters, LU was appreciated by NAAC for being a pioneer in the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
The NAAC grading for LU came after eight years of wait. It was last awarded a ‘B’ grade in 2014 that expired in 2019.

In the last evaluation, LU scored poorly in NAAC parameters of curricular aspects and ‘infrastructure and learning resources’.
This time it scored highest on these two parameters along with scoring above 3.2 out of 4 in the remaining five parameters.
In ‘infrastructure and learning resources’, LU scored an average of 3.76, in curricular aspects (3.6), student support and progression (3.32) institutional values and best practices (3.75), research, innovation and extension (3.56), teaching-learning and evaluation (3.53) and governance, leadership and management (3.28) out of 4.
Soon after the news broke, LU campus was filled with cheers of joy and celebrations with teachers and students dancing on drumbeats in front of vice-chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai’s office on the campus.
“Showing the real worth of the University was always a desire as the soul of this institution is pious. Every LU person realized that we have the strength for greater recognition and hence had worked hard on improving every little aspect. As a result, LU is now a nationally recognized institute,” said Rai.
He expressed his gratitude to governor Anandiben Patel, who advised LU to make a separate in charge for every NAAC parameter, and chief minister Yogi Adityanath for constant support.
“We are also grateful to officials of the higher education department who helped us in every possible way,” he added.
Rai said only 26.4% of evaluation was based on campus inspection by the NAAC team, while the remaining evaluation was based on data validation which was thoroughly document based and highly transparent.
“We have put our best foot forward and have supportive records, evidence and documents for every academic information, achievement and claim made,” he added.
“We got a special appreciation for being a pioneer in NEP adoption with NAAC terming our NEP implementation as world class,” the VC said.
He said that an A++ grade will make us eligible for various government grants and schemes and to run various courses.
“Apart from this, our students will be benefitted at large as all leading national and multinational companies come for campus placement only in NAAC A or above grade. We won’t have to run after companies for placement, but their HRs will contact us,” he added.
Earlier LU scored poorly for having an outdated syllabus, no on-campus best practices and poor infrastructure. LU improved on every NAAC parameter as it strengthened its research, introduced various student and teacher centric scholarship and research promotion schemes, gave push to use of information and communication technology, began teachers’ recruitment drive, established student placement cells and a lot more.
